Rollover Pass:

As the closure of Rollover Pass becomes a reality, the future of Gilchrist and its residents seems to be in limbo.  Its recreational and economic situations, and recovery from the devastation from Ike, present a complex series of challenges for the residents of Bolivar Peninsula.

The Gilchrist Community Association (GCA) and PenDeCo have formed a working partnership to address potential opportunities (and liabilities) that may arise upon the closure and potential replacement of recreational facilities that are expected to be provided by the State of Texas.

A number of agencies are involved in the closure of the Pass, and will be influential in the development of replacement recreational opportunities in the Gilchrist community.  These include the Texas General Land Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, US Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, and Galveston County.  We will work together to ensure that guidance on redevelopment will come from the local community.

PenDeCo is committed to staying abreast of the status of applications and to keeping residents informed as the process of closure and redevelopment opportunities continues.  We strive to ensure that what eventually takes place after the closure is in the best interest of the residents of Gilchrist and the entire Peninsula for the long term.
